Northern Chester County, PA

Glenmoore, PA

November 2, 2010

A voter's guide for Chester County Residents in the Congressional 6th District, the State Senate 44th, and General Assembly 26th.

US Senator

Joe Sestak

Endorsed Vote: Yes

Capable, principled, not "owned" by special interests.

31 years U.S. Navy, rising to the rank of three-star Admiral.

Director for Defense Policy on the National Security Council. After 9/11, selected to serve as the first Director of "Deep Blue," the Navy's anti-terrorism unit where he worked to establish new strategies for the Navy to fight the Global War on Terror.

U.S. Naval Academy, graduated second in his class. Joe also holds a MPA, and a PhD in Political Economy and Government from Harvard University.

Stands up to the financial interests that got us into this economic plight, e.g., the credit card holders' bill of rights. Strong proponent of extending middle class tax cuts, putting money into the hands of those who will truly turn this economy around rather than lining the pockets of corporations overseas.

Joe Sestak has consistently shown his support for the middle class and understands the difficulties we face in this economy.

The contrasts between these two candidates could not be more clear. Admiral Sestak stands for the citizens.

Pat Toomey

Endorsed Vote: No

Toomey voted for all of President Bush's budgets resulting in a $1.7 trillion addition to the deficit.
Pat Toomey and his shadowy backers are committed to building a new and cheaper middle class, just not in the US.
Wants to keep tax cuts for wealthiest 2%.
Votes against environmental/green jobs initiatives.
Consistently supports policies that export US jobs to foreign countries.
President of "The Club for Growth", CFG has more than 9,000 members, dominated by Wall Street financiers and executives. An ultra-extreme political action group set up to avoid the rules that govern more traditional political action committees while promoting corporate interests at the expense of citizens.

US Representative in Congress, 6th District

Manan Trivedi

Endorsed Vote: Yes

Decorated US Veteran. Physician. Local guy.
A record of unselfish community service.
Endorsed by Veterans, Women, Environmental Groups and Unions (yes, those "unions" who fight to keep jobs in the US).
Not a shill for big business or the wealthy, he holds the refreshing belief that health care reform should benefit the patient and not the insurance companies.
In contrast to Gerlach, he would close the loophole that grants tax breaks to companies that move jobs overseas.
Trivedi displays the values and common sense sorely needed now.

Jim Gerlach

Endorsed Vote: No

A career politician and carpet-bagger who chose this district based on opportunities for himself rather than personal connection.

It's safe to say Gerlach has lost touch with the people he is supposed to be representing.

He would act immediately to undo the small progress made toward health care access reform. This is a public bamboozle that needs to be exposed for the naked profiteering that it is.

He continues to support tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas, the failed Bush tax cuts to the wealthiest 2%which have been proven to not create jobs, and bail out his Wall Street buddies.

One look at Gerlach's voting record will clearly show that he's a wholly-owned subsidiary of the financial and insurance industries vs. voting for the benefit of the people he represents.

SENATOR IN THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY 44th DISTRICT

John Rafferty

Endorsed Vote: No Endorsement

The candidate by default, Rafferty is unopposed by anyone of substance. Rafferty is not a bad choice, fortunately. He has decent environmental ratings. He also voted against an attempt by PA Puppy Mills to get themselves protected by the EcoTerrorism Act.
But this is a good example of the weakness of the 2-party system in PA and the need to get involved.

Matt Stehman

Endorsed Vote: No Endorsement

Seems like a decent guy, but has not put the work in to present himself as a candidate.
The only source of information right now is his Facebook page.

REPRESENTATIVE IN THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY 26th DISTRICT

Fern Kaufman

Endorsed Vote: Yes

A newcomer with the education and life experience to inspire some confidence.
Supports Labor (keeping JOBS here), the environment, reforming health care coverage, and fiscal conservatism. An enthusiastic yes.

Tim Hennessy

Endorsed Vote: No

8 terms already. Time to move on, Tim!
Tacit support for the cruelty of PA's puppy mills -- proving an unhealthy relationship with special interests.
Also poor ratings on environmental issues.

GOVERNOR AND LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR

Dan Onorato

Endorsed Vote: Yes

Proven track record in growing jobs in PA. Emphasis on green jobs and technical training - specifically bringing green manufacturing jobs to the state.
Clearly understands the pressures on the middle and working class rather than protecting the interests of big oil and corporations that don't need the help.

Tom Corbett

Endorsed Vote: No

Funded by Big Oil and gives only lip service to bringing jobs back to PA. Not surprisingly opposes taxes on gas drilling in PA, giving the industry a free ride.
Fully owned subsidiary of special interests that serve the wealthiest 2% and moved industry and jobs overseas.
Has demonstrated open contempt for Pennsylvania's unemployed.
The main thing this candidate has going for him is the truckloads of money he receives from undisclosed special interests, not his high ideals or sparkling record.
